Since I’ve been getting back into blogging, I’ve been trying to write/schedule some posts so I have things on the wire to come out and get my blog moving again. I’ve also been editing some past posts (formatting, my OCD demands it) and purging some outdated posts that I feel are just clogging up my blog. I’ve also decided to change up how I write my reviews. I always would write my own synopsis/summary for the book before jumping into the review. I noticed that this made my reviews take longer, so I decided to 86 them to make writing reviews take less time, which will make me less inclined to put them off until I forget what even happened in the book.
In doing all of this, I’ve noticed that I use a different voice when I write. I have been working through a few past reviews that need written and the new system is harder solely because I am having trouble personalizing them. It’s almost like as soon as I sit down at the keyboard, my brain goes into “professional mode” and I “try harder” or something. I re-read what I type and have to stop and think about how un-me it sounds! Where is my personality in all of that? Why am I speaking like I am trying to impress? Sure, trying to impress is all well and good, but not at the cost of losing your personality by wearing a mask on your voice to do so. It’s obviously something I need to practice at, but it was an interesting revelation to say the least.
Do you find it hard to write in your voice, or does it come naturally to you?
